For the month of April 2012, the All Jamaica ‘All Divisions’ Consumer Price Index, recorded
181.9 there by reflecting an increase of 0.4 per cent. The index had a 0.5 per cent rise in
March 2012. The calendar year-to-date inflation rate was 2.1 per cent. The month
of April marked the start of the 2012-2013 fiscal year so the fiscal movement
was the same as the past month while for the point-to-point, the rate of
increase was 7.2 per cent.
The index for the divisions ‘Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages’ Transport’
and Recreation and Culture’ recorded the largest movement with increases of 0.7
per cent and 0.6 per cent each for the latter divisions. The increase in the
index for ‘Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages’ was largely the result of increased
prices for ‘Fruit’ and ‘Vegetables and Starchy Foods’. The increased prices for
petrol and its related products were the main contributors to the increase in
the index for ‘Transport’ while, increased prices for the daily newspapers,
equipment for recreation and culture and stationery and drawing supplies were
among the main contributors to the increase for ‘Recreation and Culture’.
The other divisions that recorded increases in the All Jamaica ‘All
Divisions’ index were: ‘Alcoholic
Beverages and Tobacco’ 0.1 per cent, ‘Clothing and Footwear’ 0.3 per cent,
‘Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels’ -0.3 per cent ‘Furnishings,
Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance’ 0.4 per cent, ‘Health’
0.2 per cent, ‘Restaurants and Accommodation Services’ 0.3 per cent,
‘Miscellaneous Goods and Services’ 0.2 per cent, ‘Education’ 0.3 per cent and
‘Communication’ recorded 0.0 per cent
The
regional indices showed increases for the three regions: Greater Kingston
Metropolitan Area 0.4 per cent, Other Urban Centres 0.6 per and
Rural Areas 0.3 per cent.
