The All Jamaica ‘All Divisions’ Consumer Price Index of 160.7 for June 2010 represented
an inflation rate of 0.6 per cent. A
similar movement occurred in May 2010. The inflation rate for the calendar year
to date was 6.8 per cent, in comparison to the 4.0 per cent that was recorded
for the corresponding period December 2008 to June 2009. The increase for the
period June 2009 to June 2010 (point-to-point) was 13.2 per cent while, the
fiscal year to date inflation rate stood at 2.6 per cent.
The index for the division, ‘Food and Non-alcoholic Beverages’ (1.2 per cent)
was the only one that recorded an increase of over 1.0 per cent. The lowest
movement was recorded for the division ‘Transport’ which moved downward by 0.4
per cent in its index. The main contributor to this was reduced prices for
airfares, petroleum and its related products.
The All Jamaica index showed movements in the following divisions: ‘Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco 0.6 per cent, ‘Clothing and
Footwear 0.8 per cent, ‘Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and Other Fuels’ 0.1
per cent, ‘Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance’
by 0.6 per cent, ‘Health’ 0.1 percent,
‘Recreation and Culture’ 0.1 per cent, ‘Restaurants
and Accommodation Services’ 0.1 per cent, and ‘Miscellaneous Goods and Services’
0.7 per cent. There was no movement for the divisions ‘Communication’ and
‘Education’.
The regional indices showed increases for all three regions, the ‘Greater Kingston Metropolitan Area’ up by 0.2
per cent, ‘Other Urban Centres’ 0.6
per cent and ‘Rural Areas’ up by 0.8
per cent.
