Producer Price Index

The
Producer Price Index (PPI) for the Mining
& Quarrying industry increased by 3.9 per cent for the first month of the
second quarter, April 2010. This compared to the negligible movement recorded
the previous month. The Manufacturing industry
recorded an upward movement of 0.3 per cent in output prices for the similar
period. This upward movement was
due to the increases in the index for the major groups, ‘Refined Petroleum
Products’ up by 2.7 per cent and ‘Chemicals and Chemical Products’ 1.5 per cent.
The decline of 0.1 per cent in the index for the major groups, ‘Food, Beverages
& Tobacco’ moderated the impact of the industry’s index movement.
For the fiscalyear to date,April 2009 to March 2010, the index for the Mining & Quarrying industry recorded an increase of 18.5 per cent. The PPI recorded an
increase of 8.4 per cent for the fiscal year to date in the Manufacturing
industry.
For the point- to- point period
April 2009 to April 2010, producer
prices for the Mining & Quarrying industry increased by 23.1 per cent. The
Manufacturing industry reflected a rise in its index of 8.7 per cent for the
same period.
