What is the JSLC?

The Jamaica Survey of Living Conditions (JSLC) is a collaborative effort between the STATIN and the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ). Since its launch in 1988, the JSLC has been a vital tool for understanding how Jamaicans live and how well social services are meeting their needs.

Why It Matters

The JSLC was created with two key goals in mind:

  • To guide national priorities by providing reliable data on how people are doing economically and socially.
  • To evaluate the impact of policies, helping decision-makers adjust programmes to better serve the population.

A Snapshot

  • The JSLC is conducted every year , except during national census years (like 2011 and 2022), and was paused in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite these breaks, it remains one of the most important sources of household-level data in Jamaica.

What's New in 2025?

  • This year, the JSLC has been revised to meet updated international standards. The survey has been streamlined to make it easier for both interviewers and participants, improving the overall quality and reliability of the data.

  • Interviews are conducted using tablet-based technology, making the process faster and more efficient.
